 Welcome to
 The Camperdown Mills
Historical Society
 Greenville South Carolina

The Camperdown Mills Historical Society was formed in the Spring of 2007 by a group of "Camperdown Kids" who cherish the memories of growing up at Camperdown and of hearing the Camperdown stories told by their parents and grandparents.

The purpose of the Society is to bring together those individuals who are interested in the preservation of the rich history of the Camperdown Mills and the Camperdown mill village of Greenville South Carolina. The Society hopes that not only those who worked and lived at Camperdown but also the entire Greenville community will join us in insuring that this history is accurately and lovingly preserved for future generations.

"...the hoarse steam whistle of the great engine of Camperdown Cotton Mills tells of a utilitarian age and modern progress."
- The Greenville Century Book
C. S. Crittenden, 1903

The Camperdown Mills were located on the banks of the Reedy River on the south side of the Main Street Bridge in the area now known as Falls Park in Greenville South Carolina.

The Camperdown Mills Company was established in 1874 and operated the first mills in Greenville County set up to export cotton products to other areas of the United States.

The early success of The Camperdown Mills undoubtedly played a significant role
 in Greenville's later becoming

"The Textile Center of The World"

and the city it is today!
